Yeah, exactly- there's also the condition that the beasties really pose no threat beyond the "what the hell is this?" factor- they have no teeth an the looks on their faces aren't even exactly menacing.
but EEEWWW! you can see their little brains!
paranoia embodies a sense of threat when really there is none there (otherwise it's danger, not paranoia) that's what i tried to portray here. I like your observations.
